I initially went online searching for a Cook's Illus. recipe for cinnamon rolls. I have always used a streusel coffee cake recipe from an old,old family cookbook. I was surprised to see your ( and Cook's) recipe is almost the exact recipe. The cookbook is by Meta Given and was handed down from my great-grandmother. I guess if the recipe is good it survives. I also put a caramel like base on the bottom of the pan before cooking to make "sticky buns" and alot of people like them better than the cream cheese frosting.

Made these last night for a friend visiting from another town. Halved the recipe and added a teaspoon of cardamon to the batter (can't have my cinnamon rolls without it!). And oh-my, the rolls were amazing. By far the best I've ever made or even had. So soft and rich. We ate all of them in 1 night, both too full to even move. Thank you so much for this recipe (and many more on this beautiful blog)!

I just made these for Valentine's Day. Wow. Such an intense flavor and the dough was so soft and easy to work with. Thanks for sharing.

I made these for my fam on Xmas morning and they were wonderful! It's a great, easy to follow recipe. Thanks for sharing. Everyone loved them, and the extras lasted well over the following days. I didn't use any icing and they were plenty sweet and moist.

Gorgeous rolls and thanks for posting! I did try Alton Brown's recipe for making cinnamon rolls about a month or so ago but because I don't own a KA's stand mixer so I ended up using my hands to knead. Needless to say, I didn't realy know exactly how long and what the dough's texture was supposed to turn out so I messed up the process from there on! I really want to test out AB's recipe vs. CI's recipe for this and see for myself which one I'll like better. I've never worked with dough before so there are still lots to learn I guess! But your rolls look absolutely mouthwatering and gorgeous, to say the least!

Love your site....alwayS!

Thanks for the suggestions -- I have been using Alton Brown's Overnight Cinnamon Rolls as my go-to CR recipe for about 1 1/2 years now; I went to make them for tomorrow's Valentine's Day breakfast this morning and realized I didn't have the required FIVE eggs (4 yolks, 1 whole!).

However, I pulled down my handy Cook's Illustrated Best Baking book to check out their recipe, and I had just enough eggs :) but I love the overnight aspect of AB's recipe. So I'm going to take your advice to reduce the cinnamon in the CI recipe, add in some butter to the filling and see how they turn out.
